Gayton Dance Studio

Studio Rules & Regulations

Please remember these guidelines are to ensure the safety of students, maintain a clean environment, and help the studio function in an efficient manner.  Above all, it will provide students with an unparalleled performing arts education!

  1. Tuition is due on the first of each month.  If tuition has not been paid by the 10th of each month, a $15 late fee will be assessed to your account and you must contact Robin.  If it is not possible to deliver payment when the studio is open, it can be mailed to the studio or placed in the mail slot on the front door.  Please be sure to include the student's name on the memo part of the check.
  2. Each student is required to attend class on a regular basis and needs to arrive to class 10 minutes prior to class time.  Students need to arrive in enough time to  change clothing and use restrooms, etc., before class starts.  This is very important the last month prior to a performance.
  3. Class Rules:
~ No gum or food during classes!  We do not want anyone choking.
~ No food or drinks (except water) on the dance floors.  No open soda cans or containers anywhere in the studio.  Students are responsible for cleaning up after themselves.  We want to keep a clean studio.
~ Make sure you go to the restroom before class starts.
~ Always bring a water bottle to class.  Bring it with you into your class.
  4. We highly encourage parents or guardians to walk students in and out of the studio.  No student should leave the studio without a parent or guardian.  Students should not wait outside!  We are very sensitive to our student's safety, but we are not responsible for students before or after their class time.
  5. Every student is required to participate in all scheduled events, and there are no exceptions to this rule.  They will be required to perform on stage at the annual recital held in August.
  6. Prorating is not allowed unless there is a new student beginning in the middle of the month.  Gayton Dance offers a generous make-up class policy that will allow the student to make up any missed classes due to illness, school activities, class cancellation or any other reason he/she missed class.  Ask the student's instructor to determine the make-up class time.  The school will be closed for two weeks in December for the holidays, these classes will be made up in January.
  7. There is a yearly registration fee of $20 to enroll each student in class.
  8. Class placement is determined by the instructor, and support is needed by the parents in their decisions and selection of class placement.
  9. In order for students to be in higher level classes, additional training may be necessary in the form of extra classes.
  10. Observation windows will allow parents to occasionally observe your child in class, but the school would like to keep the hallways clear as much as possible.
  11. Gayton Dance is not responsible for lost personal items.  There is a lost and found located in the dressing rooms and should be checked if your child has lost anything.
  12. Dance education requires "hands-on" instruction, as well as verbal instruction.  Instructors will regularly correct children by touching their arms, legs, feet, hips, back and head to move them to the correct position.  Instructors will also verbally correct students during class.  The students are required to know the routines and are expected to practice at home.
  13. If Adams County Schools close due to severe weather, Gayton Dance will also be closed.  If severe weather occurs after school hours, Robin or Jody will decide whether or not to cancel classes.  Short notice cancellations due to severe weather will be posted on the studio's phone message.  The studio supports decisions made by the parents when they think it is too dangerous to drive to class.
  14. Schedules could change due to attendance and teacher schedules, etc.  30 day notice will be posted.
  15. Newletters will be sent home with each student.  Notes and information are posted in the hallway and on the bulletin boards.  There is also a monthly calendar of events located in the front lobby.  Parents need to make sure they check for announcements regularly.
  16. The dressing room is for girls/women only.  Male students should use the restroom to change.  The dressing room is not a waiting room.
  17. Each student should have a dance bag that will hold all shoes.  He/she should bring that bag to every class.
  18. Proper dance attire and dance shoes are required for all classes.  Unprepared students may not be allowed to participate in class.
~ Ballet - Girls need to wear a black leotard and pink tights, ballet skirt over and pink ballet shoes.  Boys need to wear sweats or dance pants with men's black ballet shoes.
~ Jazz/Poms/Lyrical/Tap/Hip-Hop, etc. - Dance students need to wear exercise clothing such as leggings, bike shorts, sports bras and tops.  Inappropriate clothing, including khakis, jeans, socks without shoes, and large baggy t-shirts restrict movement and can cause an injury.  Black jazz shoes or boots are required for Poms, Jazz, and Hip-Hop.  Lyrical shoes are required for Lyrical.  Black tap shoes are required for tap class.  Street shoes are absolutely not allowed on the dance floor!
  19. Two weeks notification of the students no longer attending Gayton Dance is necessary in order to stop charges to their account.
  20. Any questions or concerns regarding the policies or decisions made by Gayton Dance need to make a personal appointment with Robin.  These policies which are set forth at the school are based on over 30 years of combined experience in the dance industry that have helped create the award-winning program that is now in place at the studio.
  21. Parents need to have a positive attitude and continued support is necessary in order for their child to continue the privilege of participating in the studio's program.  If the parent chooses to have a negative attitude or causes volatile scenes in any way, your child and you will be asked to leave the school.
  22. Gayton Dance reserves the right to refuse services to any person who does not support the policies and decisions set forth.
  23. The staff members of Gayton Dance will discuss only a child's progress with the parent, we will not discuss other children's progress.  Do not compare your child to other dancers, be supportive and nurturing to their development in dance.
